The Last Drop: Why a Pouring Jug Is Judged at the Spout
Every small pouring vessel looks the same on a shelf and behaves differently in the hand, and the difference is a millimetre of clay at the lip. The Ceramic Pouring Jug is built around that edge: the spout is drawn out thin and slightly flared so the stream separates instead of running back under the rim, and the wall behind it is left open so a server can see the level without tilting far. Wavy rim, glossy body, pattern fired under the glaze. Pear, small florals, or white with a green interior.
Where These Jugs Fail, and Where This One Does Not
The spout is the first thing to go, because it is the thinnest part of the piece and the first part to meet a sink. Fired too thin, it chips on the first knock; left too thick, it drips down the outside every time. This one is drawn to a working thickness and the glaze is pulled back from the very tip so the edge stays clean rather than beaded. The second failure is the pattern: a decal sitting on top of the glaze wears at the rim within months of daily wiping. The third is the dishwasher, whose heat cycle dulls a gloss surface long before the piece itself gives up.
Pattern Registration and Assortments
Three designs on one body means three decal runs, and registration is where assortments go wrong: the pear sits low on the wall in one firing, the florals drift on the next. Each design is pulled from a fixed placement so a mixed carton opens with all three motifs at the same height. Assortments are packed to the ratio you sell rather than split evenly, and a design of your own is quoted from a transfer rather than a colour number. The base takes your mark in place of ours.
"A jug is either clean at the lip or it is nothing. Everything else is decoration."
